Please note: The information on this page is regarding referrals for children and young people with a GP registered in Luton and Central Bedfordshire.

Who can refer?

We accept referrals from medical and educational professionals for children and young people with a GP registered in Luton and Central Bedfordshire.

We unfortunately cannot consider self-referrals.

What to refer

We assess children and young people with neurodevelopmental difficulties and long term conditions that:

  • Physically affect the child’s everyday life and how they function
  • Cause pain or discomfort
  • Have led to a regression with their physical skills

Red flags at any age:

  • Strong parental concern
  • Regression or loss of a physical skill
  • Differences between right and left sides of the body/asymmetry
  • Low tone or high tone that is affecting development
  • Persistent joint/muscle pain, night pain or early morning stiffness.

  • Not able to lift head when in prone for short periods

  • Not exploring objects with hands and mouth
  • Not holding head in supported sitting
  • Not holding head and shoulders up when in prone

  • Do not hold objects
  • Not rolling
  • Not sitting without support
  • Not moving – wiggling, creeping, crawling
  • Not taking weight on legs when held in standing

12 months

  • No independent mobility – crawling, creeping, bottom shuffling
  • Not pulling to stand at support

18 months

  • Not standing independently
  • Not attempting to walk without support

  • Not able to walk, run, jump and climb independently
  • Not able to stand on one leg for a few seconds

Before referring for these conditions please review the current advice to ensure referrals are appropriate.

If the child or young person has a functional concern that is affecting them everyday, pain, significant asymmetry or a regression in their gross motor skills please complete the referral.
