14th November 2019
World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) aims to increase awareness of antibiotic resistance as a global problem and promote best practices amongst health workers, the general public and policy-makers to reduce the rate of emergence of antibiotic resistance.
Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest global threats we face today. Without effective antibiotics, many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous. Basic operations such as chemotherapy, surgery and animal health all rely on access to effective antibiotics. To keep antibiotics working and slow the rate of resistance we must ensure unnecessary and inappropriate use is avoided.
This year WAAW is being held between 18th and 22nd November and the L&D’s pharmacy team will be raising awareness about the problems of antibiotic resistance and sharing information on how to best manage this problem. Come and visit the team in main reception and the Chiltern restaurant between 12-2 to find out how you can stop the spread, pledge to become an antibiotic guardian and take part in the fun activities organised!
