Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust would like to remind patients and visitors that car parking at the L&D is currently extremely restricted due to the construction works on the site. Where possible it is suggested patients do not bring their car if they can avoid it, and use alternative transport arrangements.
As the hospital redevelopment scheme progresses, there will be frequent changes in and around the site. This will enable urgent replacement of some of the site’s most outdated estate.
The redevelopment scheme includes delivery of an Acute Services Block and New Ward Block to incorporate facilities for maternity services, the level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), critical care, surgical arrivals and recovery, as well as operating theatres.
In addition, work is being carried out to build an Energy Centre, offices for approximately 400 members of staff, and a new multi-storey car park with cycling facilities. Please see below photos of the progress made so far, with the car park due to open late December.
