Neurophysiology
Neurophysiological tests are used in diagnosing a wide range of neurological conditions.
The tests record very small electrical signals from nerves and muscles. The most frequently requested tests are listed below.
All tests are carried out by either the Medical Consultant or highly trained Clinical Physiologists.
Video/EEG (Electroencephalogram) – This records the electrical activity from different parts of the brain and converts the information into a tracing called an electroencephalogram (EEG).
EP (Evoked Potentials) – Records the responses to different types of stimulus (light, sound and touch) to test the function of the central nervous system.
NCS (Nerve Conduction Studies) and EMG (Electromyography) – This tests the function of nerves and muscles by recording the activity in affected areas, using small stimulating electrodes or recording needle electrodes.
