Midwives at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (which includes both Bedford Hospital and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital) were delighted to welcome the arrival of 19 babies on Christmas Day, including twins, and 15 babies on New Year’s Day, across both maternity units.
The first baby born on Christmas Day at Bedford Hospital, out of a total of six, was baby boy Dancho (pictured) who arrived at 2.57am weighing in at 6lbs 4oz.

Margot Rose Stonebridge (pictured) was also born at Bedford Hospital, arriving at 8.12am on Christmas Day, weighing in at 8lbs 14oz. Mum Katherine said: “After a very difficult year, Margot’s arrival to complete our family has been the biggest ray of sunshine. Her brother and sister are absolutely smitten.”

Another bundle of joy who arrived at the Luton and Dunstable University (L&D) was Aaron Ajit Singh Sangha (pictured), a baby boy, whose parents described him as “our very own unwrapped Christmas present”.

Twins Matilder and River Spark were born three minutes apart at the L&D on Christmas Day, at 12.04 and 12.07.
Aiya Alayna Mahnoor (pictured) was one of nine babies born on New Year’s Day at the L&D, arriving at 6am, weighing in at 6lb 3oz.

Chief Nurse at Bedfordshire Hospitals, Liz Lees said: “It was extremely busy for everyone on Christmas and New Year’s Day and we are absolutely delighted and thankful to have helped bring 34 beautiful babies into the world, little rays of light so welcome as we continue to navigate through a challenging health pandemic.
Many congratulations to all the parents on their new arrivals, a fantastic way to end the year and start a new one; and thanks to all our incredible staff for working over the holiday period.”
