From Monday (20 March) we will be temporarily closing the patient car park between Rye Close and Cygnet Wing (highlighted in orange in the below picture) to allow us to start early construction work to create an additional Ophthalmology Theatre. The first stage of this project is to install the electrical infrastructure to support this.
The car park (consisting of 41 spaces, including 2 disabled spaces) will be out of use and there will be no public vehicle access whilst these works take place. This will remain temporarily closed until December 2023.
To ensure safety, we will have traffic management systems in place at the rear entrance of Cygnet and the single storey extension to Riverbank at all times. This would be from Beeden House direction only. There will be clear signage and wardens in place to point patients and visitors in the right direction.
There is alternative parking near this area of the hospital adjacent to Cygnet and parking next to the Kempston Road entrance.
The current drop off bays by the front entrance of Cygnet Wing will still be in use.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. It is a challenge to make building improvements in and around a live and busy operational hospital. We appreciate your patience whilst we work hard to improve our hospital facilities for patients, visitors and our staff.
