Jacqueline Blackett
Jacqueline arrived in England from Guyana in May 1969.
Soon after arriving, Jacqueline took up post at the L&D as a Student Nurse in our elderly wards in St Mary’s Wing. Jacquie recalls the wards being seriously understaffed and busy at the time but was just so happy to be doing the profession she enjoyed and loved so much.
Jacquie worked in her chosen career and excelled at it which is why she was soon promoted, and eventually obtained a post as Staff Nurse, SRN.
Jacquie recalls some stand out moments from her time working at the L&D – the warm welcome received from the overseas Doctors or the time she was picked to welcome British Comedian, Eric Morecambe as he visited the wards.
After taking a maternity break in the 1980’s, Jacquie returned to nursing and later retired at the age of 65.
Jacquie is now a published author and runs her own clinic as an Holistic Practitioner.
