Wenna Breeze-Milligan

Wenna Breeze-Milligan, Breast Care Nurse, L&D

Wenna was nominated by Sarah and Kate, due to her excellent attention and care during cancer treatment:

“January of this year we found ourselves, once again, sitting in a small room, with the all too familiar blue curtains and speckled floor, nervously perching on the examination couch opposite our breast consultant. Then we heard those words, “I’m sorry to say its cancer”.

“There is no way to describe how you feel at that point, without too much cliché it is like your world has fallen in on you. My wife was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2016. After treatment we have around six years cancer-free, though not without a couple of scares in that time.

“So there we were in 2023, with months of scans, treatments, surgery and uncertainty ahead of us.
Two years before, Wenna had been my mum’s breast care nurse. My mum thought she was lovely, and looked forward to their weekly phone calls. Wenna was always kind, took the time to explain, talk through results and kept up regular contact. Sadly in 2021 my mum died.

“Our previous breast care nurse had left, so without any doubt my wife asked if we could be assigned to Wenna.

“Wenna has been truly AMAZING!!!

“In the early days she phoned us weekly, asking how we were, making sure we had appointments and answering any questions we had, and there were quite a few! If she didn’t know the answer at the time she would consult with our oncologist, breast surgeon consultant or the chemo unit and get back to us without fail.

“Wenna is kind, thoughtful, compassionate, empathetic, and just lovely to chat to. She also understands our sense of humour which is always a bonus!

“Wenna has hugged us through tears of sadness and of joy.

“There are no words to describe the difference she has made, but put simply, Wenna has been there for us.

“Wenna is an extraordinary person and nurse, and we believe she should be recognised for this.”
