Sharon Ichu
Sharon Ichu, Pilgrim Ward Nurse, Bedford Hospital
“Sharon made me feel so welcome and safe no matter what I needed, or wanted she was there attending to my needs. She always spoke to me like I mattered, like I was somebody and not just another patient. She always went above and beyond in her work. When I was anxious about blood test as I am scared of needles she always knew how to make me feel better about having them done. Watching Sharon deal with other patients you could tell that she loves her job and always puts the patients at ease and comfortable, even with those challenging patients who press the call bell every 2 seconds, she always comes in with the same attitude like it was the first time they have pressed the buzzer. She does all this with the biggest smile on her face which is so infectious that you cannot help but smile back no matter how down and in pain you are. If I didn’t have Sharon as my nurse I think my stay in hospital would have been depressing and boring.
“Sharon’s attitude rubs off on all her other staff as well, she is a ray of sunshine. It was hard to pick one member of the team as they are all brilliant, but for me Sharon stood out and is a great example of how a nurse should be. She is an asset to the NHS and Bedford Hospital.”
