On Tuesday 15 October 2024 ~140 people attended our latest medical lecture to learn more about our A&E, the Ambulance Service, and how to stay healthy.
Over 250,000 people attend our Emergency Departments (EDs) each year, many of whom could have avoided having to do so. We hope that everyone had an informative evening, learned what our service provides for our community and the advice about healthy living, including eating a balanced diet, healthy weight, exercise, quitting smoking and drinking less alcohol.
If you look after your health, you are less likely to need to visit your GP, call the ambulance, come into hospitals, and take time out of your day. 111 can direct you to the best place to get help if you cannot contact your GP during the day, or when your GP is closed. This also helps keep our emergency teams from being overloaded, so please ensure you only visit our EDs for emergency concerns rather than all issues.
Hosted by Trust Chair Richard Sumray, we also heard from Mr David Kirby (Consultant and Deputy Medical Director of Bedfordshire Hospitals ), Lewis Andrew (Chief Operating Officer, College of Paramedics), Dr Vijay Nayar (Primary Care GP) and Craig Lister (Associate Director from BLMK ICB).
After sharing, the group engaged in a Q&A and discussion the attendees.
