Facilities

We know that people living with obesity may face daily challenges that others may take for granted, such as getting out of bed or sitting on a chair, in view of this we understand that some of our patients may feel nervous about coming to a public space or to the clinic for the first time. Our clinic facility is shared between the Obesity and Rheumatology department and is set aside from other, busier outpatient areas in the hospital. The unit is a bespoke design with our patients in mind and has fantastic accessibility.

Should you have any worries or concerns about your specific requirements please contact our team who will do all they can to accommodate your needs where possible.

What facilities are available?

  • Reception and waiting room area
  • 9 clinical rooms (shared with Rheumatology)
  • Phlebotomy room for taking bloods
  • Wheelchair accessible toilet (located within the waiting room)
  • Free NHS Wi-Fi

Will the facilities meet my needs?

Yes. Our treatment centre has been modified to accommodate patients living with obesity. We have specialist equipment that can meet the needs of all patients.

What specialist equipment do you have available?

We have a variety of specialist equipment to cater to individual needs, these include:

  • Adapted chairs located in the waiting room and clinic rooms
  • Adapted beds located in each clinic room
  • Adapted wheelchairs (it is advisable to bring your own wheelchair, if you have one. We have limited stock and are therefore unable guarantee availability on the day)
  • Precise weighing scales
  • Weighing pads for stretchers, wheelchairs and bed patients
  • Bioelectric impedance analysis (specialised scales to measure body composition which allows us to track your progress more accurately)
  • Adapted lift that links the Orthopaedic car park to our reception area
  • Adapted door width that has been designed to accommodate bariatric wheelchairs and patients living with obesity.

We do not have a café on-site. There are hospital shops and a café located on the main hospital site. Please note that this is a 10-15 minute walk from our outpatient department. Please bear this in mind if you are coming from afar or if you have several appointments scheduled for the same day.

Free Wi-Fi is available to patients throughout the hospital & Zone T. There is no time limit on use, and capacity has been expanded to ensure continuous access for as many users as possible. The Wi-Fi is not secure as it is open to the public.

Car parking is accessible off Halfway Avenue (marked Orthopaedics) and a lift is available to take you to the bariatric outpatient reception area. The bariatric outpatient area is also accessible via Belper Road if arriving by foot or being dropped off.  There are only one or two disabled spaces on this side.

Please note that there are parking charges for patients and visitors.

Reminder: Our clinics are not located on the main hospital site. Zone T/Bariatric Outpatient department is located next to the M1 Junction 11 roundabout, adjacent to the Travelodge hotel and petrol station.  If you are using a sat-nav, please use the postcode LU4 8RQ
