Maternity staff set to reach new heights to fundraise for Little Feet Appeal

Transformational redevelopment works are taking place at our Luton and Dunstable University Hospital site with the Acute Services Block (ASB) and New Ward Block (NWB) making great progress. Once complete, a number of our maternity services are due to be moving across to the new build in 2025.

In aid of this exciting move, a team of 10 maternity colleagues from Delivery Suite have set themselves the challenge of walking Mount Snowdon this September to raise vital funds for the Little Feet Appeal, facilitated by Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Charity.

With the maternity team at the L&D supporting more than 5,000 mothers and babies each year, the vision is to create warm, inviting spaces so that patients and their families feel safe and comfortable throughout their maternity journey.

The funds raised from the Little Feet Appeal will support in enhancing the visual identity and furnishings to the following areas:

  • Antenatal Ward
  • Antenatal Services
  • Delivery Suite
  • Post Natal Ward
  • Bereavement Suites
  • Counselling Room
  • Courtyard Garden

The maternity services which will continue to remain in the current building will receive a refresh, with thanks to the generosity of our community and the Trust Charity.

Kelley James, Delivery Suite Manager at the L&D said: “This will be the third challenge for some of us as a team. After raising over £7,000 for other charities in the past, we decided that this year we would like to raise funds to contribute towards our new maternity unit. On 21 September 2024 our team of 10 will walk Mount Snowdon, up the Miners Path and down the Llanberis track.

“We are really excited to take on this challenge and hope to raise over £1,000 to go towards part of our maternity garden. This space will be a beautifully relaxing area for our women and birthing people.”

Recruitment and Education Support Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) Tanya Logue said: “Climbing Mount Snowdon has always been on my bucket list. I am super excited to take on this challenge with my amazing colleagues. Having been part of the maternity team for 22 years it is really exciting to be raising funds for the Little Feet Appeal. Myself and fellow team member Amelia Bugler have been training hard and feel ready for this challenge.”

Charmaine Norrish, Fundraising Manager said: “These ladies are amazing, not only do they hold down key roles within our Trust, they then decide to do this in their spare time. They really are superheroes. The Charity team and I are supporting them all the way. Good luck everyone!”
