Claire was recognised by a colleague for the regular support she provides to a patient with complex behavioural and medical needs.

“Claire is an exceptional nurse with a very high level of empathy demonstrated to each and every patient she cares for.

“This particular patient has been hospitalised long-term in various hospitals, with psychological needs being high as a consequence. Claire will always offer to care for this patient and ensures she takes her time to explain slowly and carefully what is next in her care plan.

“Claire has developed a fantastic rapport with this patient, often distracting them from often difficult, painful or scary procedures.

“Claire is the example of the very best. All of the team who work with her have only positive things to say.

“Claire, you are a pleasure to work alongside and I know that your colleagues and patients, and their parents/carers, are grateful for everything you do and the extra mile you take to give patients the best possible care and experience.”

On receiving the award, an emotional Claire said: “I don’t believe anyone working in health care does so for recognition, but to be given such an award for something you put your whole heart into means the world to me. Knowing that I have made a positive impact on patients and their families during an incredibly stressful time is so rewarding and reignites the passion I have for paediatric nursing.”
