Mmeli Ncube
Mmeli Ncube, RN, Ward 18 – L&D
We are delighted to announce the winners of June’s DAISY Awards – an international recognition programme that honours and celebrates the exceptional care that many nurses and midwives provide every day. At the Luton & Dunstable hospital, RN Mmeli Ncube won a DAISY Award for his big heart.
He was nominated a colleague, who said: “Mmeli is the most caring nurse I have had the pleasure to meet. He is professional, caring, and helpful and kindness flows from him. Nothing is too much for this kind hearted man. When he is with patients he gives them so much time and is happy to listen to them, talk to them, and he laughs with them. You know when he is working because everyone calls for him. You would think he was the only person on the ward as it is always his name called, but he does not complain or mourn, he just gets on with it.
“For most people there just would not be enough hours in the day but this young man makes it look so easy and still with all his extra workload spends and willingly gives time to his patients going well above and beyond his remit. I have worked on many wards but I have never felt the need to nominate anyone before as I looked at it as they were just doing their job. With Mmeli it’s a lot more than just doing his job. It’s hard to explain but if you watched him for a day, you would see the difference. The happiness this young man brings to the patients makes me believe that Mmeli is the perfect nomination for this DAISY award.”
