Theatres

It is an exciting time at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital as a number of our services will be moving to the brand new Acute Services Block and New Ward Block in Autumn 2025.

Through this work, the Trust will be able to increase capacity, improve sustainability and efficiency, maintain and improve quality standards and support patient-centred clinical services. Care will be delivered in modern, uplifting and fit for purpose environments and will enhance the patient experience.

When theatre services move into the new clinical buildings there will be eight new operating theatres to provide additional capacity. The theatres will feature two hybrid theatres, capable of delivering interventional and specialist services.

The new purpose-built theatre suite will feature up to date technology, improved IT systems and hybrid theatres to support a new service.

All staff working in the new theatre suite will be able to support the success by committing to new ways of working, taking a proactive approach to patient flow and ensuring the service runs smoothly by giving constructive, thoughtful feedback regarding new practices after the theatre suite opens.
