Meet the Theatres leadership team

Chris Elliott, General ManagerChris Elliott, General Manager

The Acute Services Block will provide state of the art facilities for our clinical teams to work and for our patients to be treated in. The innovative design of the theatre PODs will provide privacy for patients pre and post their theatre procedure whilst maximising the clinical space available by creating multi function clinical space. By creating a physical environment
which is fit for modern day health care that promotes effective and efficient working, we hope this will be another key enabler in attracting and retaining the very best staff to work at the Trust.

This project has been led by a large group of senior staff, giving thousands of hours of expertise to bring a holistic approach to the new Acute Services Block and the new ward areas. This state of the art build has opened up new opportunities for staff to treat patients in new ways that bring many benefits for their care, treatment and time spent in hospital. We are really proud of what has been achieved and are really excited to lead our teams and new recruits into the new buildings. Joining our team of existing staff that have dedicated many years to the Trust will not only give you a sense of purpose but also give you the opportunity to shape the future of care for our local community.

If you’re looking to taking the next step in your career, coming to work with us in Theatres and Day Surgery at the L&D might just be the opportunity you are looking for.

Our new state of the art Theatre Suite caring for patients undergoing Vascular, Robotics, Elective Orthopaedics, Emergency, and Trauma surgery along with our new Recovery and Day Surgery facilities will go even further to support our teams in delivering outstanding care to our patients.

We encourage and strive for a culture of inclusion, providing equal opportunities for career development for our multi-cultural staff that are fair and transparent.  We know that investing in, supporting and developing our staff has a direct impact on the quality of care that we deliver. Our staff are as important as our patients and the population that we serve. In return we ask that everyone in our team make a commitment to the values, co-created by our staff, patients and carers, and that unite us as a Trust.

There has been more demands for less invasive surgery for 21st century. In Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) was first introduced in May 2023. We are currently above the top 10% in the country in the number of cases performed since we started, which make us proud of what we have achieved. The new Acute Service Block will give us a hybrid operating theatres, space and equipment to continue to strive for excellence in delivering a successful and safe surgical intervention in Robotic Surgery. We provide high standard of care for our patients and have a well-structured training pathway for staff. If you think you have the skills, reliable and responsible, this will be a great opportunity to come and work collaboratively with our fantastic operating theatre team.
