Nutrition and Dietetics (GP information)
Introduction
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital aims to provide a professional and evidence-based service to improve the nutritional health of service users. We are an Acute Nutrition and Dietetic Service (Adults & Paediatrics) providing inpatient and outpatient care (Consultant referrals), across a range of specialities including gastroenterology, obesity, head and neck oncology, upper GI oncology, maxillofacial surgery, intensive care and coronary heart disease in addition to delivering patient group education sessions, staff group education sessions, and student training (Clinical placements for Student Dietitians from the University of Hertfordshire).
Referral Process
Inpatients:
Referrals are made via ICE
Outpatients:
Referrals are made by Consultants via letters
Procedures Provided
Dietetic assessments- inpatients (oral nutrition support, enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition, special diets, as requested) and outpatients (Consultant referrals)
Training and education sessions for patients:
