Obstetrics (GP information)
Introduction
Maternity Care is provided by Obstetric Consultants, their teams and midwifery staff.
Luton and Dunstable University Hospital Maternity Unit is a referral centre for complicated pregnancies, but the hospital also offers midwifery care to low risk women via community midwives and low risk birth in the hospital or at home plus a consultant led service for local women who are not low-risk.

Referrals can be made via Choose & Book or by letter directly addressed to:

Clinics
The following clinics are available:
- Midwife-led antenatal care (in the community)
- Consultant-led antenatal care (or shared care)
- Medical Complications of Pregnancy (High Risk) – diabetes (established and gestational); haematology, mental health, HIV & hepatitis
- Fetal Medicine Unit
- Day Assessment Unit for pregnant women requiring frequent monitoring or assessment
- Breech Clinic
