Orthodontics (GP information)
Introduction
Orthodontics is the specialist area of dentistry concerned with the growth and development of the teeth, jaws and face. The Orthodontic Service is Consultant led and provides highly specialised treatment for more complex cases.
We care for patients who have:
- Jaw and facial deformity
- Unerupted and poorly positioned teeth
- Congenitally missing teeth
- Cleft lip and palate
We also provide a multidisciplinary service with our colleagues in Maxillo-Facial Surgery to treat patients who require a combination of jaw or oral surgery as well as orthodontics.
Referral Process
Written referral letters, mainly by general dental practitioners and primary care specialist orthodontists:

Procedures Provided
- Assessment of newly referred patients by consultant orthodontists
- Provision of and ongoing treatment of patients with orthodontic appliances in outpatient
