International Day of the Midwife 2024 saw 19 bundles of joy welcomed into the world at Bedfordshire Hospitals

19 babies were welcomed into the world in our Maternity Units at both Bedford Hospital and the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital on Sunday 5 May 2024, with 3 babies at Bedford Hospital and 16 at the L&D!

At just one minute past midnight, baby boy Khama weighing 3380g was the first to be born at Bedford Hospital, part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mum Jodie said: “My previous caesarean section was an emergency where I ended up being put under general anaesthetic so I didn’t get to enjoy the experience. This time the birth was earlier than planned however I was relaxed knowing I was in safe hands and that I would be awake for the birth. Everyone in Theatre was absolutely amazing and the Midwife that came in with me was just amazing.

“I would like to say a thank you to the fabulous team for ensuring my baby was delivered so safely!”
