Maternity update – changes to prescriptions during antenatal care

As of Monday 3 February 2025, a number of prescription only medicines will be provided directly by community midwives to non-inpatient pregnant women / birthing people at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

This will take place in a two part phased manner. The first phase includes:

  • Ferrous Sulphate (anaemia)
  • Folic acid (reduce risk of neural tube defect)
  • Aspirin (high risk of pre-eclampsia)

This is set to increase over the coming months. We will share more information closer to the time.

This currently applies to pregnant women / birthing people at the L&D, with a similar arrangement to follow at Bedford Hospital at a later date.
