Who are we?

We are a team of specialist consultants, nurses, dietitians and psychologists. We are here to help you, your family and carers with your diabetes management

What do I get as a patient of the children’s diabetes service?

As a patient of the children’s diabetes service, you get:

  • Four clinic appointments per year with the team. At these the team will check your height, weight, HbA1c and blood pressure. Together we will review how your diabetes management is working for you and if any changes are needed. This is a great time to ask questions and get advice.
  • Access to Diabetes Specialist Nurses for advice on day-to-day management or any concerns you have (Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm).
  • Yearly clinic appointments with a dietitian specialising in diabetes to give diet and lifestyle support.
  • Access to the dietitian between clinics for any extra support you may need.
  • Access to psychology support, either though groups or one to one sessions.
  • Yearly checks for complications of diabetes. Including blood, urine and feet checks
  • An instant access passport for the paediatric assessment unit. This gives you immediate access to ward care in case of diabetes emergencies.
  • Weekend and evening advice line for emergencies: PAU – Children’s ward 01582 497401 Or 01582 491166 and ask for bleep733 (Paeds SpR on-call)
