Induction of Labour
Induction of Labour
We have an important update to the induction of labour process for Bedfordshire Hospitals.
Following feedback received on our induction process from the families we care for, we will be introducing some positive changes throughout the upcoming weeks.
Throughout March 2025 we will introduce a new induction of labour leaflet and additional induction methods. This will offer you more choice, more flexibility and less risk.
Brand new information leaflet, Inpatient Induction of Labour:
- Co-designed with local parents and Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnerships (MNVPs)
- Clear explanations of all methods
- What to expect during your stay
- Available in multiple languages on our website
Bedford site will introduce Propess for Induction of Labour (already in use at Luton):
- Available for both inpatient and outpatient care
- Allows you the option to return home for 24 hours after administration
- This is a safer option as it can be removed if needed
Luton site will introduce Dilapan S for Induction of Labour (already in use at Bedford):
- Available to those considering vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC)
- This is a mechanical method and follows national guidance for those that have already had a C-section
- This is a safer option as it does not contain any medication
Because informed choice matters.
