Keeping Well in Pregnancy (KWiP) Stop Smoking Service
Our service is here to support your attempt to quit and remain smoke free during your pregnancy.
We offer:
- A 12 week programme offering face to face appointments
- One to one support
- Provide you with information about the free NRT products we offer
- Help and support you with setting a quit date
- Discuss how to deal with triggers and difficult situations around quitting
- Offer a support network for you and your family
Risks associated with smoking in pregnancy:
- Miscarriage: 24 – 32% more likely
- Low birth weight (<2500g)
- Increased blood pressure
- Unstable blood sugars
- Reduced sensitivity to medication
- Pre term delivery: 27% more likely
- Disability / fetal abnormality: 50% more likely
- Stillbirth: Double the likelihood
- Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS): 2 – 3 more times the risk
Referral
During the first 15 weeks of pregnancy is an excellent time to quit to maximise a great outcome for you and your baby at time of delivery. CO monitoring at each appointment is a part of your routine care.
We have an open door policy which means we are here to support you at any point during your pregnancy.
We know it’s a difficult decision to make and it’s never too late to change your mind and access our services. If you wish to be referred you can use the contact service numbers provided below or speak to your community midwife / Consultant about referring you to us.
